Calendars at the ready: 2024 Pride dates are officially out. As usual, June is the biggie – it’s traditionally Pride month in honour of New York’s Stonewall riots back in June 1969, which marked the start of the Gay Rights movement is we know it.
These days, Pride celebrations spill over into July and August as people around the world join forces to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community. If you’re planning to join the party, but haven’t decided where to go, check out our round-up of the top destinations for Pride 2024.
Gran Canaria, Spain – 2nd-12th May, 2024
The Gran Canarian town of Maspalomas hosts an early-bird Pride celebration every year, and it’s one of Europe’s biggest. If you only do one thing, get tickets to Wet and White – AKA the pool party to end all pool parties. It’s on the 8th May at Amadores Beach Club. And if you’re sticking around longer, you’re in for a treat. There’s a long list of events at the Yumbo Center, on the beach at Playa del Ingles, and through the streets of Maspalomas – including, of course, a Pride parade.
Barcelona, Spain – June 2024 TBC
Yep, Spain’s at it again. And this time it’s Barcelona’s turn in the spotlight. While the 2024 dates for Pride BCN are TBC, it’s always in the second half of June – with the main events on the last weekend of the month – so you’ve got a good idea of the best time to book a holiday. There’s a whole line-up of demos, conferences and shows, all designed to give a voice to the LGBTQ+ community. Time it to coincide with Pride and when you’re not hanging out with the locals you can be lazing on the beach at La Barceloneta, wandering round the shops in Las Ramblas, and soaking up culture courtesy of Gaudi pretty much wherever you look.
Madrid, Spain – 25th June to 7th July, 2024
LGBTQ+ rights in Spain and its islands have moved on massively in recent years, so it’s no surprise that Spain features heavily on our best of Pride list. Madrid Pride is the one to book if you fancy a city break on the side. The plazas around the Spanish capital come to life with something to see around every corner, although most of the action is in Chueca – the city’s gay district. Make sure you’re here for the Madrid Pride Parade, which happens on the first Saturday of July. The best spot to see it from? The end point on Plaza de Colón.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands – 27th July to 4th August, 2024
Always fancied Amsterdam? Here’s another reason to go. Pride Amsterdam takes over this one-of-a-kind city for six days at the end of July and it’s one of the world’s biggest celebrations. This being Amsterdam, they do things a bit differently to the rest of the world and the parade takes place on the city’s canals. Insanely decorated boats start at the Scheepvaart museum and float their way along the water, so you can find a spot to watch it all happen from one of the bridges, then take your pick of street parties afterwards. There’s a big main stage in Dam Square, so that’s a great place to start. The theme for 2023 was diversity within the LGBTQI community – eyes peeled for 2024.
Valletta, Malta – 2024 dates TBC
Malta’s topped the ILGA Rainbow Index – which maps positive changes to LGBTQ+ rights, laws and policies in Europe – for years, so it’s no surprise the island goes all-out when it comes to Pride. EuroPride Valletta takes over the streets of the Mediterranean capital with everything from film nights to lectures and workshops focusing on LGBTQ+ themes. The 2024 dates are TBC, but last year it all happened in September. When the dates come out, circle the EuroPride march in your calendar. Follow the floats and dance troupes through the streets of Europe’s smallest capital city, then catch drag and burlesque performances at the concert after the parade.
New York, USA – 30th June, 2024
If you’re going all-out, it’s got to be NYC Pride. While the celebrations spill out across several days at the end of June, the 30th is the date you want in your diary. The NYC Pride Parade is huge – we’re talking 700+ floats and a riot of rainbow colours. It starts from the corner of 25th Street and Fifth Avenue and passes the original site of the Stonewall riots along the route. And while you’re in the Big Apple, you can tick off all the touristy must-sees, if you fancy.
