Just Landed – May’s new arrivals

May’s been one big tease. One day the Birkenstocks are out, the next it’s back to barbecues in the rain. The UK’s summer free trial has expired, but our fresh arrivals have landed just in time to save the season. This month’s all about cool-and-coastal Vancouver and two of its dreamy stays, plus some new picks in destinations you already love. Say it with us – no more soggy sausages.

Vancouver

This Canadian city’s a tale of two vibes. Au naturel and urban – Vancouver does both. Its West Coast postcode places it between the Pacific Ocean and the North Shore Mountains, giving the city a backdrop that’s hard to beat. The Downtown area’s the perfect base, whether your plans involve hikes at sunrise or drinks after sunset, and each of its districts bring something different to the table.

District hopping

Vancouver’s districts all have their own flavour. Yaletown’s aesthetic coffee shops and green spaces go hand in hand – grab an iced matcha and stroll through David Lam Park.  Gastown’s got the historic charm, from its Wild-West influences to its 19th-century architecture. Check out its boutiques and art galleries, and don’t miss the steamy clock, a landmark that literally steams every 15 minutes – Big Ben could never.

Granville Island was once an industrial wasteland – and not in a chic way. It’s since had a glow up, and is now home to a thriving market scene with arty gifts, craft brews, and street food. Eat like a local and try some candied salmon or poutine – Canada’s take on dirty fries. If it’s nightlife you’re after, Granville Street’s the place to go. The buzzy strip’s lined with pubs, bars and live music venues, and if you’re going out out, you’ll find plenty of clubs here, too.

Nature’s finest

The West-Coast weather’s milder than in other parts of Canada, with temperatures reaching the mid-20s in the summer – a huge win for nature lovers. Vancouver’s got nine beaches to its name – Kits Beach’s a sandy spot that’s good for a swim, or if you’d rather stay dry, hire a kayak to see more of the coastline. Stick to the shore over in Stanley Park with a walk along the seawall paths and through rose gardens, or hike up to Grouse Mountain for peak panoramic views. There’s even a rainforest north of the city – head to the Capilano Suspension Bridge for treetop views stretching for miles.

Here’s some inspo for somewhere to stay…

The stylish pick

Fairmont’s a big name in the hotel world, and Fairmont Pacific Rim lives up to the hype. It’s won all the awards for its luxury looks and boujie facilities, including a huge spa situation, two restaurants and a rooftop pool overlooking the harbour.

The central pick

In the heart of Downtown Vancouver, Georgian Court Hotel couldn’t be more perfectly placed. You’ll be a short stroll from Gastown, Yaletown and the harbour, so packing in the sightseeing’s a breeze. Inside, the hotel’s got a boutique feel – everything’s chic, and there’s a bar, restaurant and wellness area, too.

New picks in classic places

This month we’re showing some love to the travelled-and-tested destinations, too. In the Good for the ‘Gram department, Cristine Bedfor is bringing boho to Menorca. It’s right in the middle of Mahon – the capital – and its outdoor pool makes it a rare city stay.

We’ve also got something fresh over in fellow Balearic babe, Majorca. Treat yourself to an entire apartment at Apartmentos Andreas and chef up your own meals, or let someone else do the cooking in the restaurant. Spend days round the outdoor pool, or walk down the road and you’re on the beach.

Our latest addition in Turkey’s Antalya area is Sey Beach Hotel & Spa. This stay gets all the green flags for its private beachfront, spa, and outdoor pool lined with loungers and day beds. And did we mention everything’s All Inclusive…

May’s budget-friendly find is in Gran Canaria’s iconic Playa del Ingles. Dorotea’s apartments are a sweet deal – they’re steps away from the sand, plus there’s an outdoor pool, bar and café here. And you’ll be round the corner from the resort’s buzzy centre, too.
