4 days in Malta with @usntheworld

4 days in Malta with @usntheworld

Malta is one of those destinations that flies under the radar a bit. It’s an island south of Sicily in the Mediterranean Sea and we’ve been dying to check it out. There are Medieval towns and sites, islands to visit and plenty of sun. See what we got up to over the four days we spent there…

Day 1 – getting there

We arrived at the airport, checked in and grabbed a quick bite to eat before boarding the three-hour flight to Malta. Once we arrived, we got our luggage and a transfer to our hotel.

We checked into The George Urban Boutique Hotel, which is in the perfect position, on a side street in the Paceville area. You’re right by sandy St George’s Bay and a load of the best nightlife picks. We filmed a quick room tour for you all before unpacking our stuff everywhere and checked out the party at the rooftop pool. The views upstairs are amazing, spanning 360 degrees over St Julian’s and the Mediterranean Sea. There’s a freshwater pool up there open from April to October but even if you’re not visiting over that time, the indoor pool’s open with a sauna, steam bath and spa. There are also loads of loungers, so we bagsied two to take it all in, and ordered a couple of cocktails from the pool bar.

Day 2 – a beach club and the best dinner we’ve had

First thing this morning, we went up for a spot of sunbathing at the rooftop pool before having breakfast at the hotel. We then got a taxi to 1926 Hotel & Spa and checked out their beach club, 1926 Le Plage, where went for another swim in their infinity pool before having a bottle of fizz – now, this is a holiday. The sea views were unreal, and they had in-water loungers for an extra bit of luxury. We also tried out their California roll sushi which was insane. Char had a raspberry mojito, and I had an Aperol spritz! We also did a hotel tour of 1926 Hotel & Spa to show you what the rooms are like here, as well as the hotel bar and spa.

We stopped off for a slice of pizza on our walk back to our hotel, taking in the views of Malta’s harbour.

Nothing too filling though, as we were getting ready for our reservation at Sciacca Grill – a steak restaurant, which was one of the best meals we’ve ever had! It’s a no menu concept, so you get to pick your own meat – we both had the baked brie with fig chutney to start and the Australian ribeye with béarnaise sauce. It was so good! It is a very meaty place, but you could also pick seafood, like lobster, which looked amazing, too.

We walked back to our hotel via the strip to check out Malta’s nightlife. St George’s Road is where you’ll find most of the clubs and bars around here, so it’s super easy to see where takes your fancy. But after a little look, it was time for bed for us.

Day 3 – Blue Lagoon and Gozo sunset quad tour

We went for a walk along the beachfront and tried breakfast out this time. We had an iced latte from Delizie Siciliane and then stopped off at Oakberry for an açai bowl, which was super fresh.

Today, we were going on a Blue Lagoon and Gozo sunset quad tour with First Choice Experiences, so we headed back in time to get picked up from the Hilton hotel at 1pm. We got taken to the ferry terminal and from there, caught a boat to Gozo.  We got to stop off for a swim in the Blue Lagoon for one and a half hours on the way and then got off the boat in Gozo. We were taken to the quad bike garage, filled in the necessary documents, got on our quad and started the tour round Gozo. We were riding round and taking in the sites – Sanap Cliffs, Fontana Village and Xwejni salt pans – for another one and a half hours before we stopped for a light dinner and headed to the cliffs to see the sun set over the sea.

Once the tour was finished, we handed back the quads and got the boat back to Malta, where we were driven back to the Hilton hotel for around 10pm. On our walk back to our hotel, we stopped off for a crepe at Zwitt Cravings café and shared a Kinder Bueno crepe, which was so tasty – we’d earned it…

Day 4 – home time

We stayed at the hotel for breakfast, then headed to Valentina Hotel for a hotel and room tour. Once we’d done our thing and looked around, we sat and had a coffee with the manager who was so lovely and made us feel so welcome.

Then, it was back to our hotel to pack, but we still managed to squeeze in a trip to Il Forno bakery for an iced coffee before getting our Uber to the airport. Our flight was actually delayed, so we booked into the airport lounge to relax before boarding our flight back to London – there’s always a silver lining…
