You’ve heard of wonky veg, well, we’ve brought the concept into the travel world. Wonky holidays are picks with odd durations, departing in shoulder seasons – a Tuesday flight with a Thursday return, a 6-night trip rather than your classic 7, or a summer holiday in October over July. They might not be appealing to everyone, but they were born this way 
And, slay at maximising value. The fact that not everyone loves them means there are more for you – and the prices can reflect that, too.
If you’re one to dodge the school summer holiday crowds, you’ve probably already heard of the shoulder-season hack. They’re not quite as obvious as your winter sun picks. Spring and autumn in the UK can still be pretty pleasant and, especially in April, everyone’s hopes are up for an early summer – that’s where you swoop in. Or, for a lil extended summer, October’s got the perk of retaining the summer heat. Odd durations might be a new one for you, though… Travelling Saturday to Saturday or Saturday to Sunday FEELS like the best value because you’re making the most of two weekends away… but guess what? Everyone knows that 
Most importantly, the airlines know it, too. These are usually the most expensive days of the week to fly on – travelling midweek can be much cheaper.
So, get on the wonky hype with these deals. It’s up to you to make sure they don’t go to waste like that carrot shaped like you know what

Where to go in April
Europe’s deffo warming up by now, but if you’re looking for HOT, head to these picks… and read where’s hot in April for the rest.
Morocco’s talking mid-20s temps in April, which is ideal for a mix of beach and sightseeing. The coastline between Agadir and Taghazout is perfect for a chilled getaway – think surf lessons, yoga classes and seafront dinners. Or, Marrakech is a great shout to see before the height of summer hits. You don’t get the sea breeze here, so it can feel a bit warmer and it’s the perfect time to tick off places like the Jardin Majorelle and Koutoubia Mosque.
Egypt is so much more than big pyramid energy. The Red Sea Coast has some world-renowned diving and snorkelling sites, plus holidays here mean you get to cool off by the beach – even in the evenings, things don’t tend to drop below 20°C in April. Hurghada’s a big name over here and Sharm El Sheikh’s another watersports winner on the Sinai Peninsula. They’re ideal for combining visits and daytrips to ancient sites with some serious chill time.
April is actually the end of peak season in Dubai, so you can swerve the biggest crowds and still make the most of 30°C days. You’ll be spending plenty of time at the beach clubs and this month marks the end of Ramadan, where you can join in the local Eid Al Fitr celebrations. Shop the souks, climb the Burj Khalifa and head off into the desert on a 4×4 tour – Dubai might surprise you with how much there is to do.
Where to go in October

Spain’s got the perk of a mainland and two sets of islands to pick from. Plus, the Canary Islands are actually closer to Africa anyway, so you already know their ‘winter’ looks very different. A seriously hot pick in October though, is Seville, averaging 27°C, which literally makes it Spain’s hottest city. The summer is actually too hot here – even the locals look to escape then.
Crete is generally considered the warmest Greek island, so a trip here in October can still get you temps between 18 and 25°C. The sea is gorg for a warm dip and it’s not too hot, so you can get in plenty of sightseeing. If cities are more your type, then Athens is a great pick, too. There are plenty of great museums and galleries, and you can climb up to the Acropolis without the sun being too intense.
September is still pretty much peak summer in Turkey, so October is still really warm, too. We’re talking mid-20s and sea temperatures of around the same. The southeastern part is generally the hottest, so Antalya is ideal for a beachy resort. Or, go for Istanbul for some of the best houmous of your life and a more active city break.
