Strasbourg looks like a storybook city and offers something different depending on the season. The city comes alive at Christmas time, with market stalls and lights filling the historic, cobbled streets. Or, if you go in spring and summer, the sun shines on the canal and you can enjoy alfresco dining or hop on a river cruise to see the picturesque, half-timbered houses in all their glory. Strasbourg’s historic quarter is called Petite France, and it’s just that, you can easily explore the whole area on foot. One of the city’s star features is the pink, sandstone gothic cathedral that stands tall in the centre. When the sun goes down, there’s a lively student nightlife you can join or cosy wine taverns, where you can sink into your seat and watch the world go by.
Best time to go to Strasbourg
Strasbourg comes alive at Christmas time, so if you’re a fan of Christmas markets and festivities then December is definitely the best time to go. The thermometer hovers above 0°C and if you’re lucky there’s a chance of a sprinkling of snow – this is not guaranteed. For sun-seekers, late spring and summer are a lovey time to go with temperatures in the mid-to-late twenties.
