Morning
Start with coffee by the lake while watching the town wake up around you. Then either catch the C10 bus or, if you fancy stretching your legs, walk for 30 minutes along to the stunning Villa Carlotta.

The Villa Carlotta has an onsite café by the lake - Antica Serra - a perfect place for a special lunch in unique surroundings. The café is located in the old greenhouse and has a large panoramic terrace where you can enjoy your meal.
Afternoon
Spend the rest of your day getting lost among the beauty of Villa Carlotta and its huge art collection. Once you've had your fill of pretty things inside the museum, the latter end of the afternoon is best spent lazily exploring the equally fascinating botanical gardens within the grounds.
Spend some time exploring Lake Orta, an under-the-radar spot that’s known locally as Cinderella lake. After that, you’ll head to Stresa on Lake Maggiore and catch a boat over to Isola Bella – with its opulent palace and tiered gardens, you’ll soon see why it’s called ‘Beautiful Island’.

Head to the lakeside town of Tirano for a coffee stop, then it’s off to board the Bernina Express and journey along the highest railway route in Europe. You’ll be glued to the windows as you pass peaks, waterfalls, valleys and glaciers. And at the end is the Swiss town of St Moritz, where you can take a couple of hours to explore the cafés and shops.
