Tamarin’s shopping line-up’s fairly low-key, so the best place to head for a spot of retail therapy is nearby Flic en Flac. It’s a 15-minute cab ride up the coast, and the highlight’s the Cascavelle Shopping Village – a cutesy open-air mall with a tropical feel to it.

Sega shows take place regularly in bars and hotels around the village, and occasionally on the beach, too. These lively dance shows are a blend of colours, fast-paced music and flamboyantly costumed dancers.

Tamarin’s beach pulls in watersports nuts from all over the planet, thanks to its surf-ready waves. And whether you’re an old hand or have never tried it before, you can sign up for some lessons at the surf school on the sands.

Sea salt harvesting was Tamarin’s main source of income for decades, and while the industry’s largely died out here, the vast salt pans in the heart of the village remain in place for now. If you head here early enough, you might spot some of the salt pickers with salt baskets on their heads – the technique’s been in use for centuries and it remains unchanged here.
