The Loustri Pie Festival
It’s a bake-off at this annual competition in the village of Loustri, about 30 minutes away. Locals get together to pit their pie-making skills against one another in hopes of winning the judges’ vote. Nobody’s a sore loser, though, so expect plenty of partying with live music, dancing, drinking – and pies, of course.Whichever of St Spyridon’s beaches you choose, you’ll be in a quiet spot. At the main strip you can hire pedalos and canoes, while noisier watersports can be found at the nearby resort of Acharavi. You’ll find lots of rock pools around here, though – head for the area just past the Mareblue Beach Resort hotel for some top crabbing.

After that, it’s a toss-up between the roasted lamb and the sole stuffed with anchovies, leeks and capers. Whatever you choose, it’ll be served up on the al fresco decking area with sea views.

Instead, what you’ll get here is laid-back evenings where you can settle into one of the seafront bars or tavernas with a bottle of wine. If you do want more of a buzz, though, regular courtesy buses will get you over to livelier Acharavi.

You can buy beach bits, jewellery, clothes and mementos made from the local olive wood. Bizarrely, you can also shop in Corfu’s only Latin-American store. Back in St Spyridon, the resort’s only supermarket should cover the essentials.

You’ve got lots of eating places here too, or you can buy picnicky bits from the mini-mart. If you arrive after 3pm, you’ll get a good discount on ticket prices.

At the clutch of seafront tavernas you’ll get well-cooked Greek classics like moussaka and kleftiko – slow-roasted lamb and cinnamon. And if you want to try out some more local places, a 10-minute bus ride gets you to the harbour-side restaurants at Kassiopi.
