Appropriately enough, this annual festival takes places at Albufeira’s Fishermen’s Beach. Over 3 days, you can enjoy freshly caught fish that’s cooked and served up from stalls on the beach, along with plenty of Portuguese wine and beer. And in the evenings, do join the locals who’ll be dancing to live folk music.

The Strip is all about cheerful kebabs and gyros, but you can seek out more traditional Portuguese cuisine if you venture further into Albufeira itself. Just a 5-minute drive away is the old town’s main square, where restaurants serve up freshly-netted seafood along with specialities like arroz de marisco, a Portuguese twist on paella. Meals finish nicely with a coffee and a tarta de nata, a Portuguese custard tart.
