Book a diving trip to the islands in San Antonio Bay

The dinky islands of Illa Conillera and S'Illa des Bosc bob in the middle of San Antonio Bay. Both are uninhabited and surrounded by deep water, which makes them popular with yachters and snorkellers. A diving school operates out of Port des Torrent and runs regular trips to dive sites around the rocky mounds.

  • Port des Torrent’s next-door neighbour, San Antonio, is always keen for a party, and pulls out all the stops for this yearly bash. The main square overlooking the bay is the best vantage point for the massive fireworks display on the actual saint’s day, 24th August. It’s also the stage for Spanish dancing and a bit of jazz, and there are tonnes of food stalls.

Ibiza Town's a 30-minute drive from Port des Torrent, and it’s where most of the island’s shopping action takes place. It’s a real Aladdin’s cave, flooded with vintage boutiques and shops selling everything from designer gear to high street labels. From late afternoon, it’s worth heading to the harbourside quarter. As the day cools, the narrow streets here are stuffed to the gills with market stalls full of jewellery trinkets and leatherware.

The snapper and sea bream taste delicious just simply grilled. Tapas fans should also find what they’re looking for, with traditional favourites like fresh anchovies and Spanish omelette.

This rustic restaurant – usually known by its English name, the Old Cock – has been around since 1959, and it’s still serving up house specialities of barbecued meat, paella and salted fish to its loyal customers. The lobster – picked fresh from the tank – is delicious in a stew. You’ll get a warm welcome from the staff, and plenty of local Ibizan wines to go with your meal.

Kylie Minogue is just one of the thousands of people who’ve been to Es Vedra, a mystical little island near Cala d’Hort. It looks pretty unassuming – just a rocky chunk of limestone inhabited by goats – but many believe it has healing energy. A short boat ride from Port des Torrent gets you there, then you can sail around the island to see if you can feel its force.

There’s a chilled-out vibe to Kumharas, a popular bar-restaurant about 10 minutes' drive from Port des Torrent. People come here for the sunsets, when DJs play ambient tunes while the crowd relaxes on floor cushions and watches the fire-eaters perform. Cocktails, shisha pipes and Asian-inspired food are all on the menu, too.
