Head out on a daytrip to Makarska

The lively city of Makarska is an hour’s trip down the coast from Podstrana. It’s home to Medieval churches, a Baroque palace and Croatia’s second-highest mountain, Biokovo. On a clear day, hike up its tallest peak and you can see as far as Italy. If you’ve got time, stop off in Omiš on your way back. Make tracks for the fortresses and cobbled alleyways, where pirates roamed from the 12th to 14th century.
