Terpsis, Pefki Lindos
Over the years, owner Vangelis has built up quite a reputation for this little place. And the dolmades made from his mother’s own recipe have a following of their own. Chef Michalis gives traditional Greek dishes a modern twist – like his beetroot and village sausage kleftiko and cinnamon-flavoured halva. Be sure to book ahead, especially if you want to eat in the garden.The peace of Pefkos is why people love it here, so the resort doesn’t go wild at night. It really is about savouring a bottle of wine with dinner or chatting over cocktails. You can always take a 10-minute taxi ride to Lindos, though. It’s not boisterous – loud music is banned after midnight – but there are plenty of bars and a few soundproofed clubs for late-night dancing.

Leather goods, jewellery, handmade lace and ceramics are all worth a look. Or, if you’re after something drinkable, look out for koriantolino. Rhodes’s signature liqueur is made from ouzo, spices and a special flower that’s unique to the island.

The calm conditions here are well-suited to beginners, so it’s a great opportunity to have a go. You’ll find plenty of places on the waterfront offering lessons and equipment hire.

It’s no coincidence, then, that the place gets packed out with tribute bands for its annual rock festival. Lindos Rock happens in June each year and brings a week of open-air, seafront concerts.
