Make the most of Skiathos Town's lively nightlife

In Megali Ammos itself you’ll find tavernas and ouzeris, which serve ouzo and snacks. But, come nighttime, it’s worth the trip into Skiathos Town. Most of the bars are on Polytechniou Street or near the old port. Meanwhile, if it’s clubs you’re after, there’s a strip along the waterfront, near the bus terminal. It’s worth knowing that this is a late-night town where the bars don’t really get going until around 11pm.

There are also canoes that you can row to neighbouring beaches.

Here’s your chance to see traditional music and dance, as well as performances of famous Greek tragedies. The courtyard of a beachside hotel is home to this popular restaurant, serving up international and Greek dishes. Meat’s the star at Thursday’s barbecue night, or veggies can try the strapetsada, an egg dish made with tomatoes and feta. At night it’s a top spot for cocktails, too – the margaritas and daiquiris are said to be the best on the island.

As well as 2 supermarkets, you’ve got a handful of shops where you’ll find holiday essentials. In Skiathos Town, meanwhile, the best shopping is in the side streets between Papadiamantis and the old port. There you can buy handmade ceramics, natural sea sponges and – Greece’s speciality – gold and silver jewellery. Or, for more affordable souvenirs, try the local honey, olive oil or herbs.
