Things To Do in Mazara del Vallo

Thanks to the large Tunisian community in Mazara Del Vallo, it’s a great place to try African dishes. Many restaurants specialise in Arabic fare – spice-infused fish couscous is a popular pick. You’ll find plenty of fusion dishes on offer, too.

The beach on the west side of Mazara Del Vallo is flanked by a string of beach clubs, each with row after row of sunloungers to flake out on. The water here’s clear and blue, so it’s popular with swimmers and snorkellers. If you’re on a budget, you can always flick down a towel on the public stretch of sand, instead.

The Satyr is a Greek statue that was discovered in 1998 when it got caught up in a fishing net in the waters between Pantelleria and Africa. The two-and-a-half-metre-high statue is dated between the 1st and 4th centuries BC. It’s the main attraction at the Museum of the Satyr, and makes this unique museum worth a visit.

The last two weeks of August see Mazara Del Vallo play host to the San Vito Festival, or the Feast of San Vito. There are numerous events in the calendar to mark the event, from processions and street parades to firework displays.
