Take a Turkish bath
Turkish baths have had their place in Istanbul’s history books since Romans roamed the city. And today, centuries-old bath houses can still be found right across the city. They make a perfect pit stop when you’re sightseeing, or after a busy day. Traditional places consist of three rooms, one for steaming, a warm room for scrubbing, and a cool room to relax in after.At over 60 meters tall, Galata Tower is one of the biggest buildings on Istanbul’s skyline. It was built back in the 14th century to watch over the city. And, thanks to its elevation and position, it serves up some first-class vistas of both halves of the city, as well as the Bosphorus strait. There’s a lift that takes you almost to the top of the building. Then, there are a couple of flights to climb to the panoramic balcony that’s perched at the top of the tower.

Sights to tick off on this island include a huge Greek Orthodox orphanage, the largest wooden building in Europe.
