Daytrip to Dubrovnik old town

You’ll find Croatia’s fairy-tale old town a 50-minute drive from Igalo, framed by huge walls. Dubrovnik’s filled to the brim with Baroque architecture and good-looking piazzas – Luza Square is a top spot to cosy up with a coffee. It comes with a celeb-approved dining scene, too – Catherine Zeta-Jones and Beyonce have both been spotted tucking in at the high-end local eateries.

  • The Adriatic’s tallest mountain – 1,894 metres to be exact – rises up behind Igalo, and offers plenty of fodder for keen walkers. There’s a popular trail you can pick up from the bus station in Herceg Novi, which eventually turns into the Coastal Mountain Traversal – a 180-kilometre-long path that runs all the way to the town of Bar. Or, drive for half an hour to Borici and make a beeline for the Vratlo mountain hut – the hike takes around two hours.

Hit the beach, wade straight in and cover yourself with the muddy sand – it’s said to help with arthritis and skin conditions.
