Listen to live music in San Blas

Nightlife on the Golf del Sur tends to focus around the San Blas area – the duo of squares that make up the commercial centre are lined with bars, Irish pubs and restaurants, as well as a nightclub. Some places put on entertainment, like karaoke and live music, too. For a big night out, head for lively Playa de Las Americas, 20 minutes’ drive away.

  • The commercial centre in San Blas has a handful of souvenir and duty-free shops, as well as a couple of supermarkets. If you’re more of a market person, there’s one by the marina on Friday mornings, and an evening market in Los Abrigos every Tuesday in the square in front of the church. Good buys include leather bags and belts, and handcrafted embroidered goods.

As for extras, you’ve got everything from a driving range to tennis courts, plus a coffee shop-come-restaurant with a big ocean-view terrace. Location-wise, the clue’s in the name – it’s right in the middle of town.

    Golf del Sur’s namesake course is made up of three 9-hole courses, so you can pick and choose which combination you play. They’re all landscaped with palms, flowers and cacti, and feature bunkers filled with black, volcanic sand. There’s a second course – Amarilla – just down the road, which comes with ocean and marina views.

You’ll also find a healthy dose of eateries along the seafront, with the likes of Chinese, Indian and Japanese cuisine on the menu.

    The beach at Golf del Sur is quite small and rocky – for sands, wander along the seafront until you reach Los Abrigos. The beach here is covered in dark, volcanic grains, and nearby you’ll find a handful of restaurants serving fresh fish and tapas dishes. The walk from Golf del Sur takes about 20 minutes.
