Tuck into a gourmet dinner

Costa Navarino has its fill of five-star restaurants, thanks to the efforts of the two linked resorts – The Romanos and The Westin. There are dozens of eateries between the two, and the priority at all of them is expertly-prepared food, and ingredients sourced from local farms. Get out and about and you’ll find restaurants which are more rustic, but no less impressive, in the waterfront village of Pylos – a 20-minute drive away.

  • Kalamata – the home of the famous olive – is an hour’s drive from Costa Navarino and hosts one of the liveliest farmer’s markets in the region. Come early and browse the many stalls for vegetables, freshly-caught fish and dried herbs.

    Much of the nightlife in this part of the Peloponnese tends to come in the form of laid-back beach bars – though the five-star resorts at Costa Navarino have a range of cocktail lounges, pool bars and clubs. If you’re heading off base, check out the beach in Pylos, which has a handful of watering holes lining the shore.

    The nearly circular Voidokilia beach is a local favourite, due to its soft sands, and away-from-it-all location. From the beach, there are views of nearby dunes, plus the ruins of Nestor’s Place and the Old Navarino Castle, which you can reach after a 45-minute hike. Beach facilities are few and far between, so it’s a good idea to back a lunch.
