Shoot down the slides at Aqualand
Nail-biting chutes and slides are the name of the game at this waterpark. Plummet down the Black Hole or pluck up the courage to plunge feet-first down the Kamikaze flume. If that’s all a bit too much, head for the lazy river instead. Little kids are well looked after, too, with mushroom showers and a bouncy castle.This palace takes Grand Designs to the next level. The brainchild of Empress Elizabeth of Austria, it was built as a homage to her hero, Achilles. The result is a fancy mix of colonnades, stucco work and statues inspired by the classical world. Sadly for the empress, she didn’t get to enjoy her new home for long. Just 6 years after it was finished, she was assassinated in Geneva.

Star billing goes to an ornate casket containing the mummified remains of St Spyridon. Locals reckon the saint’s slippers are threadbare due to his regular forays into Corfu Town in the dead of night.
