Bellissimo Taverna

Cheap, fresh and tasty are the buzzwords for this Greek and Italian restaurant. The owners, brothers Mike and Theo, have made a name for themselves by doing simple favourites really well – think huge pizzas, fresh seabass, delicious salads and excellent traditional moussaka. Rub shoulders with locals – and some friendly and rather well-fed cats.

    Agiotfest is a compact rock, soul and folk festival held annually in Aghios Ioannis. Its open-air setting has been nicknamed the New Cactus Hilton – a nod to the hippies who colonised the cactus groves when they arrived here 30 years ago.     When you want a change from Kontogialos Beach, you can stay on the bus to Glyfada. You’ve got a raft of watersports here including canoeing, waterskiing, windsurfing and jet-skiing. If you’re swimming, keep an eye out for the safety flag as there can be a strong undercurrent at the northern end of the stretch.
