As relaxing beach destinations go, it's hard to beat Vasilias. Fronted by the deep-blue Aegean Sea and backed by rolling hills, this little village on Skiathos – one of Greece's North Aegean Islands – is all about peace and quiet. A host of havens
Skiathos' southern coast has sandy beaches by the bucketload. You've got local favourite Megali Ammos a 10-minute walk from town, with sunloungers and shaded areas at the ready. Alternatively, take the 10-minute drive to Blue Flag award-winning beach Koukounaries – its tree-lined shore is sure to delight.
A trip to town
Vasilias is just a five-minute drive up the road to Skiathos Town, the island’s handsome capital. Daytime highlights include the former home of 19th-century writer Alexandros Papadiamantis, as well as island-hopping to neighbouring Skopelos. Round off the day with dinner at an authentic waterfront tavern – moussaka anyone?
