Holidays to Rhodes Town offer beach breaks with a twist – think Medieval sites, ancient architecture and cobbled streets.

A History Buff’s Paradise

You don’t need to buy a museum ticket to dive into history in Rhodes Old Town. Just stroll through one of the grand stone gates and it’s like stepping into a time machine. Winding streets lead to charming, cobbled squares and ancient fortresses. Don’t miss the Acropolis – it’s perched on a hill, so the theatres, temples and stadiums have a stunning sea backdrop. Unlike many Medieval cities, Rhodes Town is still bustling with thousands of locals, making it just as lively today as it was in the 14th century.

Old Meets New

This Medieval town is far from stuck in the past. The old town has kept its old-school charm with ancient castles, stone mosaic streets and traditional tavernas. Step inside the Palace of the Grand Master – it’s like a scene from a storybook with huge arched gates and thick stone walls. Or explore the Archaeological Museum, once a hospital for injured knights, it’s now a treasure trove of ancient artefacts like jewellery and vibrant pottery featuring Greek gods and warriors. And, when you want to step back into the present, you’ll find designer boutiques, lively bars and fancy restaurants just around the corner.

Days on deck

Huge yachts and boats line the dreamy coastline of Mandraki Harbour, where military vessels once stood. This spot was home to the Colossus – one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Stroll along the promenade and take in the stunning scenes of the Aegean and nearby islands. Hop on a boat to Symi and, in just a couple of hours, explore its charming villages, wander through the winding streets and check out the island’s cute, colourful houses. And, don’t miss out on trying the local fish and Greek dishes at one of the floating restaurants with gorgeous views of Mandraki marina.

Best time to go to Rhodes Town

Like the rest of Greece, Rhodes Town serves up seriously sizzling temperatures in the summer. Hitting the low-thirties in July and August and up to thirteen hours of sun, it’s no surprise it’s buzzing with beach parties. If you’re after a little less heat, the best time to visit is September-October – it’s still bikini-worthy weather and you’ll be swerving the summer crowds, too.
