Historic day out
At a 15-minute drive away, daytrips to Lagos are easy – and there's certainly a lot to see there. It's chock full of pretty churches and chapels, including the elaborately decorated Church of Santo Antonio. There's also a fort and castle down by the harbour for double the culture-vulture delight.
Sea-ing is believing
South Portugal's famous for its striking sea cliffs, and the best way to see them is by boat. Trips can be booked from the watersports centre and typically last an hour or so. Keep your eyes peeled for Mother Nature's more artistic creations – rumour has it there are elephants and ghosts hiding in those rocks.
