For something a little different, you can get to the black sands of volcanic Valle Gran Rey Beach in just 15 minutes by boat.

Believed to have once been the home of a powerful king, La Gomera's known as the Valley of the Great King. With its lush terrain, majestic mountains and limitless sea views, this island's a photographer's paradise. For a view fit for royalty, hike to the highest point – Alto de Garajonay – in the Garajonay National Park.
