Dive right in

Sitting on Santorini's vast south-eastern coastline, this Greek island hotspot's a winner with watersports enthusiasts. Perivolos offers scuba diving and even adventurous parasailing. It's also just a 15-minute drive from Red Beach, which takes its name from the striking hue of its rust-coloured cliffs.

Travel back in time

Take a daytrip to ancient Akrotiri, the island's mini version of Pompeii. Hit by a blanket of ash by an erupting volcano a few thousand years ago, the excavated site's an incredible window to the past – you can even see where utensils were dropped on the spot by the town's unlucky residents.

When in Greece, eat as the Greeks do. You can scout out the local eateries in Perivolos, or head to nearby Perissa for even more restaurant options. Expect lots of fresh fish, fava beans and 'saganaki' – that's fried cheese wrapped in filo pastry and slathered in honey.
