Rustic charm

Marpunta's a pocket-sized village on the south coast of the island of Alonissos. Despite being a short drive from the island's capital, this rural spot's in a world of its own, with authentic charm on tap and quiet hiking trails to hand. Coastal beauty

There are two crescent bays to choose from here. The Aegean Sea's too inviting to refuse a dip, and the views of the other Sporades Islands make for a dreamy horizon. If you head over to the nearby marine park, you may even catch a glimpse of local Mediterranean monk seals.

Greek treats

The island's capital, Patitiri, is only a five-minute drive away. Here, you can pop into a seafront taverna for fresh seafood, local wines and – of course – ouzo. The peaceful little town's a pretty one to stroll through – think narrow streets lined with petite houses that have flowers tumbling from their balconies.
