Holidays to Malaga combine its beautiful beaches with plenty of art, food and culture.

Make the most of Malaga

Sandy beaches? Check. Gourmet food? Sorted. A vibrant city centre? Absolutely. There’s no need to compromise between chilling by the sea or taking in some culture on a holiday to Malaga, as it’s all right on your hotel’s doorstep. La Malagueta beach is just a 20-minute stroll from the city centre, putting the sea and sun of the Costa within easy reach, along with the heaps of bars, restaurants and shopping spots that line the waterfront. For something a little more culture-focused, stop by the domed 16th-century cathedral or the Teatro Romano Málaga – a Roman amphitheatre – right in the heart of the city. The food scene here is a winner – there’s always plenty of local food and beautiful Spanish wine on the menu, with dining options to suit every budget. After dark, Malaga’s vivid nightlife keeps you partying long after the sun goes down.

Best time to go to Malaga

It’s not called the Costa del Sol for nothing. In fact, you can expect 320 days of sunshine along Spain’s southern coast, meaning Malaga’s weather is pretty much holiday-ready all year round. Think 18 to 20 degrees in spring or autumn, peaking into the blissful 30s in the summer.

Top things to see and do in Malaga

Make the most of all that sunshine by relaxing on one of Malaga’s sandy beaches. The award-winning Malagueta Beach is one of the closest – just a 20-minute walk from the city centre – boasting 1,200 metres of sand dotted with palm trees. If you really want to get into relaxation mode, you can rent a sunbed and umbrella – you’ve got plenty of options all the way along the beach. Lots of restaurants and bars run alongside the coastline, too, so you won’t be far away from a drink or another round of tapas.

When you’re not dipping your toes in the sea, you can explore the Muelle Uno open-air shopping complex. It’s bagged a spot right by the waterfront. There’s a huge array of shops here, including local high-street brands as well as designer labels. That’s not all, though – there’s a monthly market, too, taking place on the second Sunday of the month. The ‘zoco’ has nearly 100 stalls, selling everything from homemade jewellery and clothing to locally produced meats and cheeses.

The city is full of bars, restaurants and nightclubs that are open late into the night, so you don’t have to stop the fun when the sun goes down. Down by La Malagueta seafront, you’ll find plenty of cool, modern party spots, all set up for drinking and dancing.
