Quiet life
A slight step inland from Portugal's striking southern coast, the sweet village of Guia's the real deal. Traditional tavernas dot the streets and cosy restaurants serve spicy piri-piri delights. A popular getaway destination for many a celeb travelling incognito, this is one of the Algarve's most laidback hotspots.

Liven things up with daytrips to nearby towns. Albufeira, with its quaint old quarter and playful nightlife, is a big crowd-pleaser and just a 20-minute drive away. Although Guia's surrounded by lush vineyards, there's still easy access to the coast. Praia Gale, a Blue Flag award-winning beach, is just a 10-minute drive away. Hit the waves on a surfboard if you're feeling brave, or chill out on a sunlounger and crack open a good book instead.
