Holidays to Costa Caleta take you to one of the best-loved spots on the Canarian island of Fuerteventura. You get a wide stretch of sandy beach, decent windsurfing, and medium-volume nightlife.
Canary Island classic
Twenty years ago, Costa Caleta was just a quiet stretch of coastline on Fuerteventura’s east side. Now this purpose-built resort is right up to speed as one of the island’s favourite holiday spots. There’s a laid-back feel to the place but it can still hold its own on the nightlife front thanks to a main street packed with bars and restaurants. And the beach keeps the side up, too.
A beach in a bay
The beach at Costa Caleta curves around a sheltered horseshoe-shaped bay. It deals up about a kilometre of golden sand with a few pebbly patches here and there. You might want to pick a spot away from the shore, as the tide can come in a bit quickly. You’re well set up for watersports here, though, and you’ve got a few beachfront cafes for food and drinks.
A family friendly resort
Amusement arcades, play parks and mini-golf courses – Costa Caleta has organised itself well on the family front. Even the beach has got in on the act with a play area, plus there are child-friendly activities like face painting and a bouncy castle here every Friday in July and August.
Island day trips
Fifteen minutes’ drive gets you to the capital, Puerto del Rosario. The main draw here is the quirky sculptures. You’ve got about 20 dotted around the place – the cat in the rocking chair is bit of a favourite. Forty minutes on and you’re at the Dunas de Corralejo National Park, a landscape of Arabian-style desert sand. You can also get a ferry over to Lanzarote from here if you fancy it.Best time to go to Costa Caleta
