Scenic lakefront views, the authentic Villa Olmo and the colourful markets are just a few highlights of Como city breaks.
City breaks to Como
The picturesque city of Como is situated on the Italian-Swiss border, overlooking the southwest end of Lake Como, with rolling green hills in the background. In the centre of the city, you can appreciate the architecture, exhibiting a mixture of Romanesque and gothic styles. Piazza Duomo is Como’s main square with a Baroque-style cathedral smack-bang in the middle. One of Como’s best attractions – which also happens to be free – is the Villa Olmo, with its Italian-style gardens overlooking the lake and rooms full of ornate paintings and statues. To see Como from above, jump on the Como-Brunate funicular from Piazza Alcide de Gasperi and arrive in Brunate in just a few minutes. If you go back to the lakefront, you can take advantage of the boat service and visit all the local towns perched upon the lake.Best time to go to Como
Como can get very busy, with high season being late May to late September. If you want to beat the crowds and soak-up the sun, April and October are the best months to go with temperatures in the late teens to mid-twenties. If you do go in high season, in July and August the thermometer stays around the late twenties, but August can be quite rainy.
