With a host of Roman ruins and a hilltop medieval castle, there’s lots to explore on a city break to Brescia.
Brescia might not be the first city that comes to mind when you’re thinking of an Italian escape, but it’s one that should be on your list. You’ll find this city sandwiched between Lake Garda and Lake Iseo, about an hour’s drive from both, at the foot of the Alps. Brescia is known for housing some of the most important Roman ruins in northern Italy, such as the Capitolium, Forum and a Theatre. The history lessons continue at the Mille Miglia Museum – a race-car themed museum inside a converted medieval monastery building – and Brescia Castle – where you’ll be sure to fill your camera roll with panoramic snaps of the city.

The months between April and October are the most popular time for visitors, with temperatures averaging late-twenties during the summer months of June, July and August. If you’re not seeking the sun, consider booking your trip in March where you can avoid the crowds, and the mercury sits in the mid-teens.
