Holidays to Ajman are a calm intro to the Middle East, with soft, sandy beaches and lots of sunshine.
A small world
Far less busy than nearby Dubai, the United Arab Emirates' Ajman boasts an enviable stretch of white sandy beach that hugs over 30 kilometres of the Persian Gulf. Two tall, rounded watchtowers and a giant terracotta castle guard the 18th-century fort.
Rest and relaxation
Ajman sets the perfect scene for chilling out, with a long sandy beach and water as warm as a bath. There's an interesting museum full of fascinating artefacts when you want your culture fix, and the dining options are as laidback or swish as you like.
Get lost in nature
Despite its low profile, there are loads of ways to spend a day in Ajman. Don a mask and flippers to zoom in on the Persian Gulf’s impressive underwater scenery, which counts bobbing turtles and shoals of shimmering fish as residents. Or, look up to the skies to spot exotic birds soaring through clouds at the Al Zorah Nature Reserve. You can even strap into a kayak and paddle down local streams, or set sail along the coast in an old-school dhow boat.
Dubai by night
Nightlife in Ajman's mostly kept to its hotels. For nightclubs, bright lights and a glittering marina, you'll have to drive 40 minutes to Dubai. Not to be missed is the Burj Khalifa – the world's tallest building of more than 200 storeys – and its dancing water fountain display.Best time to go to Ajman
