Holidays to Aghios Georgios North deliver bumper portions of seclusion and scenery, with some of Corfu's best sands thrown in for good measure.
Super sands
Aghios Georgios North is one of Corfu’s sleepier customers. The village sits on the west coast, with plenty of elbow room. Its standout feature’s a huge scoop of sand, which counts itself among the best sunbathing territory on the island. And unlike Europe’s busier beaches, this stretch shies away from the spotlight. Tree-brushed headlands form a C-shaped barrier against the Ionian Sea, and the waterfront’s backed by traditional villas and cosy tavernas.
Island exploring
With Aghios Georgios North as your base, it’s easy to scratch a bunch of places off your daytripping checklist. If you’re the soppy sort, head to Sidari, on the north coast, for a swim in the famous Blue Flag-rated Canal d’Amour. It’s about 20 minutes’ drive away, and a dip in the water’s said to be lucky for lovebirds. Turn your attention south, and you can reach a hilltop monastery in Paleokastritsa in 40 minutes, or the historic streets of Corfu Town in 50.
Natural Corfu
If you like settings where you can hear a pin drop, this place is on the money. Wooded hills and olive groves sprawl out beyond the seafront, with walking trails threaded among them like a giant web. Make a beeline for Aghios Georgios North’s next-door neighbour – Afionas – and you’ll be in prime position for widescreen views of the village. And if you plod on a little further, there are a couple of secret beaches right at the pointy end of the peninsula.Best time to go to Aghios Georgios North
