Holidays to Afandou are bathed in the magic of Rhodes, with bougainvillaea-draped stone walls and the island's longest beach.
All-in-one getaway
Beautifully situated on the eastern edge of Rhodes – the largest of Greece's Dodecanese Islands – Afandou's a small coastal village stocked with shops, restaurants and cafés. It also has more beach than it knows what to do with, so you won't be short of space to spread out on.
Long beach
For beach days, you can't beat the seven-kilometre stretch on your doorstep. Swim in the clear sea, or try some of the many watersports on offer. Vendors weave among sunbathers on the beach, selling doughnuts and ice-cold drinks. If you're after something heartier, there are a few small tavernas behind the shore.
Rhodes to ruins
Aficionados of ancient history will be spoiled for choice in Afandou, with old-world treasures like the Acropolis of Rhodes a mere 25-minute drive away. In Afandou itself, you'll find the Church of the Panagia Katholiki – a tiny Catholic chapel which dates back to the first century AD.
Wining, dining and dancing
Afandou's wide selection of restaurants cater to most tastes, with scrummy Greek and international cuisine to choose from. For some post-dinner dancing, head to Faliraki's lively throng of nightclubs and karaoke spots – just a 10-minute drive along the coast.Best time to go to Afandou
