Holidays to A Coruna bring the best of both worlds – cultural city living and award-winning beaches.

City breaks to A Coruna

With a decent party scene and award-winning beaches in easy reach, A Coruna puts a subtle spin on the traditional Spanish city break. You can still get your usual dose of culture – step forward the world’s oldest working lighthouse – but you’ve also got Europe’s longest seafront promenade thrown into the mix. Plus, did you know A Coruna’s the home of Zara? The clothing brand’s HQ and first ever store is here, so you can pick up the outfit that’s been all over your socials while you’re in the city.

Climb Torre de Hércules

The Tower of Hercules is a Roman lighthouse that still operates today. It’s the oldest working lighthouse in the world, so it’s no surprise that UNESCO swooped in and declared it a World Heritage Site. You can climb to the top of the 55-metre tower for just a few euros – it’s worth it for the 360-degree views over the sea and city.

Top things to see and do in A Coruna

Riazor Beach is an award-winning stretch of sand based right in the heart of the city. It seems almost out of place, being nestled in with the high-rise buildings. But the beach’s cityside location means it’s easy to get to, so you’re never far from a swim, or even a surf. If you don’t want to escape the city, take a stroll along the seven-and-a-half-mile-long seafront promenade – the longest in Europe.

A Coruna is the original home of one of the best-loved high-street brands – the very first Zara store was opened here. You’ll find it on Rúa Juan Flórez, alongside plenty of other popular shops. A 10-minute drive out of town, meanwhile, takes you to Marineda City mall, where there’s another 200-plus shops and a load of restaurants.

Lively nights out are A Coruna’s bread and butter. The city’s venues often host concerts and live music venues, while DJs spin tracks from every genre in nightclubs all around town. The real hotspot, though, is La Marina – its cocktail bars overlook the ocean and you can party all night under the stars.

You may have tried a Spanish tortilla before, but A Coruna has a style all of its own. After the sliced potatoes are fried and mixed with eggs, the omelette is lightly cooked in a hot skillet until only the outside has firmed up. This leaves a gooey, runny centre that oozes out when you cut into it.
