Island capital Skiathos Town is the star of the show. Cocktail bars and a couple of marinas give it a luxury polish, but climb up in to the backstreets and you’ll discover an old quarter chock-a-block with generations-old corner shops and tavernas.
Beach hop in Kanapitsa
Hotels in the little town of Kanapitsa stick close to the pair of beaches. Powdery gold sands, crystal-clear waters and pine forest hills are the theme. And while it serves up a choice of watersports, the trusty pedalo is your best bet — you can nip between the secret coves along the coast.

The 18th-century Evangelistria Monastery is squirrelled away among the pine-clad hills of Skiathos. A museum gives you the lowdown on its revolutionary history. Plus, you can buy a glass of homemade wine from the resident monks.
