We’ve been obsessed with Greece since the B.C. days and who can blame us. Holidays here are for ancient history, boat days and yum gyros. Live your best Mamma Mia! life on pretty islands like Crete or Santorini, or make it a mainland moment in Athens or Thessaloniki.

The Balearic babes are all about beach. Majorca’s got the most sweeps, Menorca brings the chill vibes, then Ibiza’s loved by party people everywhere, although there’s a much softer side to the island, too. Don’t sleep on Formentera, though – it flies under the radar, but has more natural beauty than all of them.

If you like a bit of everything, Turkey’s all yours. The culture’s a sweet combo of Europe and the Middle East, from its history and its food to its coastline – you can swim in the Black Sea, the Aegean and the Med here. It’s not all beachy trips, though… Istanbul is pure city break material.

Brits have been topping up their tans here for decades. The Canaries are forever a fave for winter sun holidays – they’re only about a four-hour flight from home, but you get the heat all year round. Tenerife and Gran Canaria are the big names, then Lanzarote and Fuerteventura feel a bit more laidback.

Mexico’s always a vibe. The capital, Mexico City, is a win for foodies and fiesta lovers, while the Caribbean Coast is the best kind of cliché. Channel your inner spring breaker in Cancun, visit mega Mayan ruins in Tulum and explore eco parks in Riviera Maya. For desert-island scenes, Isla Holbox is totally car free and carefree.

Rum punch, reggaeton and tropical temps – the Dom Rep’s all about living your best island life. It’s the second largest in the Caribbean, with over 1,000 miles of beaut beaches. Think white sand, swaying palms and clear waters. Punta Cana’s got big boujie energy, then La Romana’s got that charming fishing-village aesthetic.

    Fave flight-free destinations

Ready to enter your flight-free era? Here are our most popular trips by train, in partnership with Byway.

There are so many places to visit in Italy… and you don’t have to settle for just one on a flight-free trip. See the stunning lake country, stop for a city break in Rome or Florence or catch a ferry over to Sicily or Sardinia. La dolce vita is so on.

Spain’s the destination that keeps on giving. Squeeze in more on a flight-free trip and tick off buzzy cities like Barcelona one day and beachy spots like Valencia the next. You could jump on a ferry over to the Balearics, or even leave Spain behind and cross the continent to Morocco…

France is only over the Channel, but we bet there’s loads you haven’t seen… Whether you fancy wine-tasting in Bordeaux, cheesy eats in the Alps or fancy feels in the French Riviera, the Eurostar’s just the start on a flight-free journey.

    Most-booked experiences

Lock in these must-do experiences before they get snapped up…

If you’re into star signs, this stargazing experience in Cape Verde is a bit of you. You’ll start the evening with drinks and dinner, before heading out into the desert to see the stars. There’s no light pollution out here, so expect unreal views of the constellations, Milky Way and planets.

You know that one scene in the Little Mermaid when they’re on the rowboat… recreate the romance on this dreamy evening cruise on a bioluminescent lagoon in Jamaica. Watch the water turn neon blue as you sail across it, or for an even closer look, jump off the boat for a swim.

Get up close and personal with Lanzarote’s sci-fi landscapes on this tour of the Timanfaya National Park. You’ll pass green lakes, lava fields and cool rock formations as you head up the Lunar Route to Fire Mountain – AKA the volcano. Then, it’s back down to La Geria for a wine-tasting stop, before a visit to the largest salt flats in the Canaries.

Leave Kos’ beaches behind and head for the hills to the mountain village of Zia. Sitting up this high, the village’s views are always gorg, but it’s extra special at sunset. Once you’ve soaked up the scenes, check out the local markets, the blue-domed Byzantine church and then grab dinner in a family-run taverna before you head back.
