Not feeling the love? Sweep yourself off your feet on a solo trip – it’s called self-care. If you fancy some winter sun, the Southern Hemisphere’s summer is going strong. Or to keep the flight time short and sweet, a European city break is always a good idea.

These are the spots you should pick to make the most of this month.

Sahara-style sands, a volcanic national park and endless bars and restaurants – holidays to Tenerife have loads lined up.

Holidays to Dubai bring you to a desert metropolis, with ultra-modern skyscrapers close to a hot and sunny seaside.

Holidays to the Algarve step up to the plate in every department. In beach terms, the place is like royalty, and the supporting cast of fairways and family attractions is on the money, too.

    Top City Breaks in February

This season’s hottest city breaks, right here…

The capital of the Netherlands is a spider’s web of photo-ready canals, with over 150 lace-like waterways flowing through the city centre.

Cheesecake and pizza by the slice against a backdrop of skyscrapers and high-end boutiques – holidays to New York dish up all those United States hallmarks in generous portions.

France’s capital has a near-permanent place in the top 10 most-visited cities list every year, and with more attractions than you can shake a French stick at.

If you put 2,000 years of history, a string of beaches and a buzzing town square into a blender, you’d be served up a city break holiday to Lisbon.

Krakow is a city of two halves – ornate architecture, pretty courtyards and tempting restaurants are up top in the city's old town.

Venice floats on a lagoon of its own making in northern Italy. Gilded gondolas, ornate basilicas and tantalising trattorias give the place its fairy tale feeling.

    FAQs

The Caribbean is HOT right now. The mercury in Cuba’s up to the late 20s, and the average temperature in St Lucia’s sitting at a steamy 29˚C. Spice things up even further in India, where days in Goa are creeping up through the low 30s. But you don’t have to go too far to get some sun – Cape Verde and Dubai are around seven hours’ flight from the UK, and are both in the toasty mid-20s range at this time of year.

If you’re looking to get away with the kids over half term, maximise your family time with a trip closer to home. The Canary Islands hit that sweet spot between a short flight and solid sunshine, plus they’ve got all the ingredients for an epic family holiday. Egypt is also a good shout, or for slightly warmer weather, Cape Verde is a couple of degrees hotter. Just remember to get booked ASAP, as other families will have the same idea – great minds think alike.

If your priority is sunshine, the Algarve’s got you covered. The temperature will be around the late teens, but Portugal’s coastline has a solid sunshine record, so you’ve got a very good chance of cloudless skies even in the winter. It’s technically out of season, so the prices will be pretty appealing, too. Plus, a swim is still on the cards, as lots of hotel pools are heated throughout the winter, anyway.
