The location opposite the train station is great for getting around. The room was lovely and very clean. We were advised to eat out the first night as the restaurant wouldnt take us. Very disappointing. We had booked a year in advance but due to a cancelled flight and last minute bookings we were given poor service. We selected this hotel due to its proximity to the main railway station and it is literally across the road. Its not in the nicest area but railway stations generally arent. The hotel was fantastic inside, with a large seating area surrounded by plenty of plants and a restaurant on the ground floor that we didnt get to experience. What a fantastic stay. We arrived after a really awful journey- stuck in a huge lightning storm on the motorway, on motorcycles! We were soaked through and pretty miserable! The parking concierge immediately showed us to the secure underground parking and then a lovely gentleman arrived out of nowhere with a trolley to help with our luggage- previously we have done multiple trips for the panniers and helmets etc so t...

Clean and good spacious rooms, excellent location of the hotel just opposite the railway station makes it very convenient to travel around. Taxis also easily available. Bus station also just opposite the hotel. Everything very good. Good food at the restaurant downstairs....

Just back from a four night stay at the Starhotel Excelsior Bologna.
First the good points. Location - right across the road from the main Bologna railway station so perfect and very convenient for taking trains all over Italy. The downside of the location is that it doesnt feel particularly safe especially at night and there are alot of dodgy people hanging around and that is offputting and spoils things.
