Best time to go to Norway

Like many countries in Northern Europe, Norway has long summer days, with the sun setting around 11pm. On the west coast, which opens out onto the North Sea, temperatures rarely get above the mid-20s and tend to sit around 15°C from June to August. This region also sees a fair amount of rain – May has the least, while September is one of the wettest with over 19 days of rain a month. If you’re coming to see the fjords, the best time is during spring, when the fruit trees are blossoming and full of colour.

Passports and Visas

British citizens don’t need a visa to enter Norway but must have a valid passport. You can check your passport’s valid for Norway using our handy tool. For the most up-to-date passport and visa info, visit www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/norway/entry-requirements.

Don't forget to arrange your travel money and insurance before you go.

Health and safety

You should take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance to cover you while you’re away. It’s also a good idea to get a European Health Insurance Card – or EHIC – before leaving the UK. Though it’s not a substitute for travel insurance, it entitles you to emergency medical treatment on the same terms as Norwegian nationals. It won’t, however, cover you for medical repatriation, ongoing medical treatment or non-urgent treatment.
