Best time to go to Oslo

Its Baltic location means Oslo’s pretty cold in the winter. We’re talking low temperatures, with an average of 0°C from November to January. The summer flaunts great temperatures for city sightseeing, though. July’s the warmest month, with highs of 23°C. Visiting anytime from May to September usually means shorts and t-shirt weather. Plus, the summer’s the best time to visit if you want to swim in Oslo Fjord, before lounging in the sun on one of the city’s manmade beaches.

Passports and Visas

British citizens don’t need a visa to enter Norway but must have a valid passport. You can check your passport’s valid for Norway using our handy tool. For the most up-to-date passport and visa info, visit www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/norway/entry-requirements.

Don't forget to arrange your travel money and insurance before you go.

Health and safety

You should take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance to cover you while you’re away. It’s also a good idea to get a European Health Insurance Card – or EHIC – before leaving the UK. Though it’s not a substitute for travel insurance, it entitles you to emergency medical treatment on the same terms as Norwegian nationals. It won’t, however, cover you for medical repatriation, ongoing medical treatment or non-urgent treatment.
