Meta di Sorrento holidays plonk you close to the sightseeing action, with one of the region's few beaches thrown in for good measure.

Neapolitan charm

Trace a line around the bowl-like Bay of Naples, and Meta di Sorrento pokes its head up just before you reach its heavy-hitting namesake, Sorrento. This place is much more diddy in size and, like in its inland neighbour, Piano di Sorrento, the day-to-day’s much more traditional. What they all share, though, are some of the best coastal views you’ll clap eyes on.

Volcanic sands

In the dramatic-looking Neapolitan Riviera, the tumbling villas along the Amalfi Coast melt right into the sea, so it’s rare to see a sweep of sand in these parts. Meta di Sorrento breaks the mould, though, with a soft strip of volcanic sand – the biggest in the region. The backdrop adds a bit of wow factor, too – a huge fortress-like sea wall blends into the cliffs over your shoulder.

Daytrippin'

From boat trips to taking on volcanoes, this pocket of Italy’s big on days out. Mount Vesuvius is visible across the bay from here, and climbing the whopping peak’s a popular pastime. Paused-in-time ruins like Herculaneum add a dose of ancient history, and you can bob across to the pretty island of Capri from any harbour worth its salt. The main town peers over the basin-like marina from a hilltop – it’s an ideal spot for authentic pizza and pasta lunches with views of boats trundling towards the mainland.
