Set of sandy spots

St Spyridon is on Corfu’s northern tip. It’s as far as you can get from the island’s party-hard south, and it’s got the chilled-out atmosphere to match. The relaxing centres around St Spyridon’s beaches – they’re a dream-team duo. One of them boasts a Blue Flag, but both have shallow water and are piled with pearl-white sand, so you’re bound to find a soft spot to stretch out on. On the sand’s edge, there are a couple of bars and restaurants to keep you fed and watered, too.

Natural assets

Stroll away from the sand for five minutes, and you’ll find yourself in a nature reserve. Here, you can wade through wild flowers and keep your eyes peeled for fluttering butterflies. This spot’s popular with bird-watchers – some rare breeds can be spied through a pair of binoculars. If you fancy a more challenging walk, lace up your trainers and head up the hill behind the village to the Agia Ekaterina Monastery.

Day-to-night trips

Hop in a car for 40 minutes to get to culture-crammed Corfu Town. This place has a cabinet’s-worth of UNESCO awards, so there’s more than enough to fill a day of sightseeing. The duo of Venetian fortresses – old and new – are the town’s crowning glory. Hang around until sundown to make use of the crop of bars and nightlife spots. Kassiopi has its fair share of after-dark attractions, too – it’s a 10-minute drive from St Spyridon – along with a winery and an annual wine festival.
