Sparkly shallows

Playa de Muro's one of the longest beaches in the Balearic Islands, and the spaciousness doesn't stop at the shore. The crystal-clear water's so shallow, you can walk for ages out to sea before you need to paddle. Choose your afternoon spot under a thatched parasol, overlooking the bleached wooden pier or sheltered among pine-backed dunes.

Nature's stars

Protected S'Albufera Natural Park, just a five-minute drive from Playa de Muro, is home to hundreds of bird and plant species. A smattering of signposted trails run through the wetlands, many starting from the Can Bateman Interpretation Centre. The shores of Es Llac Gran – a mirror-like lake here – are also the perfect place for a waterside stroll.

Time machine

A 15-minute bus ride to Alcudia delivers a dose of history. Roman relics, historic houses and a maze of cobbled streets lie within this charming town's Medieval walls. Just outside them, you can release your inner Spartacus at the Ancient Roman theatre in the ruins of Pollentia.
