Caribbean dream
This place is a million miles from its British namesake. Instead of a pier and pebbles, you’ve got a long stretch of powdery white sand. Other than that, Worthing keeps a small beach town vibe, with just one streets’ worth of bars-come-restaurants. Its nearest neighbour is more up-tempo St Lawrence Gap, and capital Bridegetown is a 15-minute taxi ride away.
Postcard-worthy beach
Worthing’s beach looks like something off a tourist board ad, with its sugar-coloured sands and clearer-than-clear waters. Talking of which, they’re shallow and perfect for paddling – wade in for almost half a mile before you’re up to your waist. It’s popular with snorkelers, too, thanks to a coral reef just off-shore. Expect to be joined on a swim by sea turtles and some multi-coloured fish.
Big city daytrips
When the Brits first came to Barbados in the 17th century, Bridgetown was made up of a wooden bridge across the water. Since then, the bustling city has been given the UNESCO stamp of approval - mainly down to its well-preserved old town. It's only a 15-minute drive from Worthing, so you can spend the day here, strolling past colonial mansions, forts and the triangular-shaped Heroes Square.
