Glyfada holidays are bucket and spade-based – everyone flip flops down to the sands to sunbathe, stuff their faces or have a go at some watersports.
Good-looking Glyfada
Glyfada is a shining example of what a beach can do for a tiny town. This place has one of the best stretches in Corfu. A couple of hotels and tavernas have rooted themselves near the sands. And they leave the rest up to Mother Nature, so the greenery’s in good supply. For shopping and nights out, Corfu Town’s half an hour’s drive away.
Burly beach
There’s plenty of room for spread-eagle sunbathing on Glyfada Beach. It’s not to be confused with a suburb in the Athens Riviera of the same name. This one’s a big, biscuit-coloured belter, with clear water and soft sand. As well as topping up your tan, it does a sterling job of sorting the activities. There are watersports, an inflatable assault course and some rocks off-shore, which the locals like to leap off.
Greek to a T
Glyfada’s restaurants are either beachfront or just behind, so sea views are ten-a-penny. Other than the odd Greek night, it’s a button-lipped place. But you can rev things up at the nearby Aqualand waterpark, 15 minutes’ drive away. Or pack a day bag and head to Corfu Town for some fancy forts, an even posher palace and a load of museums.Best time to go to Glyfada
