If there are two things a city break to Cannes can guarantee, it’s a lot of glitz and a whole load of glamour.
Hollywood vibes
Cannes sits on the French Riviera, and it’s known as Beverly Hills’ sister city – that’s probably something to do with its Hollywood-style credentials. Book a visit in May, and you can time your trip to coincide with the Cannes Film Festival – one of the biggest events in the film industry’s calendar. Expect a buzzing atmosphere, plus plenty of opportunities to do some celebrity spotting. Whenever you book a stay, though, you’ll find that Cannes is full to the brim with swanky restaurants, chic bars and luxury shopping.
Take a trip to Ile Sainte Marguerite
Fancy stepping back in time? A visit to Isle Sainte Marguerite is just the ticket. This island sits just off the coast of Cannes, and it has a chequered past. Back in the 17th century, it housed the mysterious prisoner, the ‘Man in the Iron Mask’. Today, that same building is a marine museum, the Royal Musee de la Mer, displaying artifacts recovered from nearby Roman Moorish shipwrecks.Best time to go to Cannes
Temperatures between March and May sit comfortably around the 10°C to 20°C mark. Committed sun-seekers tend to favour trips between June and August, when the thermometer reaches 30°C. The period between September and February, when it’s cooler and there’s a higher chance of showers, is the least crowded.
