Holidays to Tamarin serve up top-notch surf spots and ice-white beaches against a, tropical backdrop.
A natural beauty
This one-time fishing village has transformed itself into an up-and-comer on Mauritius’ tourist trail in recent years. However, despite a surge in popularity, the village remains relatively free from the masses. The main attractions here are still its scenic seaside setting and easy-on-the-eye mountainous backdrop in the island’s Black River region.
Surf and sands
Alongside its tropical beach, one of Tamarin’s big pulling points is its reputation among watersports fans. Ride ‘em high waves have led to this part of the west coast being dubbed ‘Surfer Beach’ by those in the know, and there are plenty of first-class dive sites off the coast, too. And if you prefer your beach days a little more chilled, there’s plenty of wriggle room on the village’s soft white swathe of sand.
Jaw-dropping vistas
Hiking and biking are two of the best ways to explore the local area, and there are loads of popular routes nearby. Top of the table is Tourelle du Tamarin – this near-1,600ft mountain peak offers up birds-eye views over the village and sweeping panoramas across the Indian Ocean and the Black River.
Dolphin encounters
Dolphins are regular visitors to Tamarin Bay, and the best chance of a close-up’s early in the morning. Spinners and bottlenoses are the two most commonly seen in these parts, and if they’re not hanging around the bay, there are plenty of providers nearby offering boat trips out into the open sea.Best time to go to Tamarin
