Gold-star beaches
The Algarve does a great line in beaches, serving up soft, golden sand in places like Albufeira. The rock pools of Olhos d’Agua is the kids’ favourite. Plus, sometimes the sand fizzes as freshwater springs bubble up through the ground. And just a half-hour drive away you’ll find Praia da Marinha — the best beach in Portugal, according to the Michelin Guide. Then there’s Praia da Gala, which flicks out five kilometres of sand.
Travel Portugal
There’s loads to do in the Algarve. Dolphins, seals, parrots and sharks steal the show at Zoomarine waterpark. And a 4D cinema will take you on a — very wet — tour of the ocean. Meanwhile, Ria Formosa National Park takes you back to nature, thanks to its flamingo-friendly wetlands. If you fancy eating well, check in to a hotel in the fishing village of Alvor. Restaurants here plate up some of the best seafood paella and Portuguese piri piri in the Algarve.
