Holidays to Medulin blend charming village character and well-preserved ruins with a wide, beach-lined bay and buzzing nightlife.
History and attractions
Medulin began as a small fishing village on the Istrian coast in Croatia. It's still got a lot of its traditional charm, but now that's mixed in with lively bars and snazzy eateries. Stroll along the waterfront promenade or admire well-preserved Roman ruins before ordering a summer spritz and a platter of steamed mussels.
Rock out in Pula
The bus from Medulin gets you to Pula in about 40 minutes, or a taxi in around 25. This city's home to lots of ancient Roman ruins, including the famous Pula Arena. The practically prehistoric spot's now used as an epic concert venue. Summer line-ups in this former gladiator ring range from cultural plays and classical songs to electronic music festivals.
Breezy beaches
Skrape and Belvedere are popular sunbathing spots, so rent a sunlounger early if you're keen for a day-long shady siesta. Bijeca Beach's the real star of these shores, though – this kilometre-long stretch of sand along clear shallows is great sandcastle-building territory.Best time to go to Medulin
